Introduction

Hello, I am John Greth and I teach at Parkland High School in Allentown, PA. I have been a teacher there for ten years. I have enjoyed teaching Technical Theater, English and Mass Communication. I completed my Masters in Education - Educational Leadership a few years ago at Wilkes. I really enjoyed the program but I have come to the professional realization I don't want to leave the classroom at this point.  I am enjoying the kids during the year and enjoying my kids during the summer too much.  I am very active with clubs and extra curricular activities during the school year so I really try and enjoy the time I have in the summer with my family as much as I can.  My wife is a teacher in the same building so it is nice that we both get to take a complete break from work.

  1. John,
Like you, I once thought that stepping out of the classroom into administration might be the right course for me but I have come to realize that my daily interaction with students and being able to discuss and help them is what makes me love my job! I am also an English teacher, teaching primarily grades 11 and 12 but also Myths and Legends (grades 9-12). Do you teach many electives?

Your children (Monika and Townsend?) are absolutely beautiful--how wonderful you and your wife get to spend the summer with them. My children (who are 10 and 12) often ask why daddy can't be a teacher, too, so we can all have summers off together. Enjoy your time as a family.
    Cheers,
    Kelly P

  2. John Greth,
Hello and it’s nice to meet you! We are right down the road from each other, as I am a teacher at Nazareth Area High School in Nazareth, PA. I have been an English teacher for 12 years now. That’s great for you and your wife that you both are teachers and you can enjoy family time together during the summers!

I really like that you included a video in your blog post!
